CASE®'s Promise Fulfilled
When the Competencies and Academic Standards Exchange (CASE®) was introduced by the 1EdTech™ community, its promise was straightforward: give every issuing agency control over its own standards data, encode those standards in a single machine-readable format, and make them openly available to any connected digital system. After years of steady ecosystem-building, that promise is being fulfilled, at scale.
During the 1EdTech™ Learning Impact conference in June 2026, Pepper Williams, founder and president of Common Good Learning Tools, facilitated a collaborative session featuring Alabama DOE, Google for Education, and Chicago Public Schools to share evidence of CASE's real-world impact (see slides presented here). The Satchel Rosetta Exchange platform serves as a portal to access CASE data from one API and showcases how far issuing agencies have come as CASE publishers. Here are the three takeaways:
More machine-readable standards
The pace of CASE adoption among issuing agencies has been accelerating! From 7 CASE publishing states in 2023 to 21 states in 2026. As part of Common Good Learning Tools’ public benefit mission, we also continue to operate and maintain the Satchel Rosetta Exchange as both a hub for easy access to CASE and a starting point for issuing agencies using the 9 U.S. subject areas and the Core 4 frameworks for international organizations we maintain. The exchange hosts over 1,100 frameworks, all free to browse for educators and public sector use.
Converting to CASE is getting easier!
Standards are moving from static PDFs to live, accessible and interoperable data schemas, with CGLT offering multiple affordable on-ramps for anyone interested in CASE publishing.
As a public benefit company, CGLT ‘s goal is to empower issuing agencies to own their source of truth and contribute to the public infrastructure needed to promote accessible and interoperable standards and competencies for the good of the ecosystem.
More platforms support CASE
The Satchel Rosetta Exchange portal for CASE has grown in popularity with companies and non-profits. Since 2024, the number of companies who help fund the cause has increased by 40% (through paid registrations) and free public registrations have also increased by 70%.
The breadth of tools now integrating CASE data is the clearest sign the ecosystem has matured. The most popular SIS and LMS systems are backing CASE (Infinite Campus, PowerSchool, Canvas, Google Classroom). Many edtech platforms are using CASE to enable more fine-tuned searches for content, direct alignment for grading and feedback, and even AI-powered standard suggestions.

Infinite Campus offers direct Satchel Rosetta Exchange integration for districts to import frameworks into Campus Learning (SIS). Other edtech companies integrate CASE by surfacing standards at the point of use in lessons and reports (Carnegie Learning) or aligning to content (Lincoln Learning). EdGate, one of the original CASE leaders and IMS Global (1EdTech) working group advocates for the specification confirms the impact:

CASE is no longer a niche interoperability set of guidelines, it is production infrastructure for some of the most widely used platforms in education.
CASE innovations
CASE was originally conceived for K-12 learning standards. Today it underpins alignment automation, AI guidance, and entirely new categories of structured educational data.
On alignment: CGLT's Satchel Rosetta Align service uses AI model-based matching between resource metadata and CASE-coded standards to generate alignment suggestions at scale. Instructure's Elevate Standards Alignment maps content using its own intelligence and exports to CASE for any downstream platform. EdGate uses CASE as the common format ensuring alignment data means the same thing across hundreds of content providers and school districts.
On AI: Chicago Public Schools built its Skyline platform on CASE-coded scope-and-sequence data, giving AI tools a structured, verifiable curriculum foundation. Learning Commons is had created open developer tools, including a Knowledge Graph of CASE-coded standards, curriculum, and research, so that AI products can be grounded in trusted educational context. Cureum's Lesson Plan Companion anchors every AI-generated instructional suggestion to verified, agency-controlled standard text.

Beyond traditional K-12 standards, the Satchel Rosetta Exchange now hosts high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) rubrics, scope-and-sequence data for courses, and course framework documents which are new categories of structured educational data published in CASE format for the first time, extending the ecosystem from "what students should know" to "how curriculum is organized and evaluated."
CASE-structured data is becoming the trusted substrate for responsible educational AI and the ecosystem is expanding into new data sets that did not exist as machine-readable artifacts five years ago.
